Laser Dentistry: Caries Detection - Treatment

Lasers for Cavity Treatment

Many dentists argue that lasers don't work well in the treatment of cavities. It is insisted that a drill is still required. Not so.

Tissue lasers are designed with different power levels and treatment capabilities. Laser designed to treat soft tissues typically (gum tissue lasing) don't have the capability of being effective on hard substances like tooth enamel.

This video displays a treatment of a single tooth cavity (caries) .... from start to finish.

An effective demonstration of an Erbium Laser, cavity detection dye and a burring handpiece to excavate decayed material, prepare bonding surfaces and complete the filling procedure. A curing lamp is also demonstrated.

Video material provided by Dr James Sanderson, Birmingham, Alabama.
