FAQ:  Tongue Thrusting

Question:
My tongue pushes my teeth out: My dentist told me that I need to keep my tongue back so he can push my teeth back so they will be straight.

But I don't know what to do. How can I keep by tongue back so I can get my braces removed. .... Visitor from CA

Answer:
Tongue thrusting is not as uncommon as many people believe. Unfortunately, many tongue thrusters don't address this issue early enough.

Thrusting is a behavior that can be "de-programmed" without too much difficulty. Get a consult with a speech therapist who specializes in this treatment.
