Pull all 4 teeth? My son is 3 and a 1/2 and his baby teeth are really bad.
They want to pull out all 4 of his front teeth on the top. Is there anything else that can be done?
I don't want to pull all his teeth and I don't feel that the dentist really cared about my son and just wanted to take his teeth. Are there any options? ...Visitor from PA
At age 3 1/2 to have this much decay probably means he was put to bed or a nap with a bottle of milk or juice.
The sugars in milk or juice sits on the teeth all night long causing decay. Another way the front teeth decay as much as you are saying is by letting him have a sippy cup of milk or juice or soda which eats the teeth away.
It is very hard to make an accurate diagnosis over the Internet, but if the teeth are too decayed, they would be very hard to restore and save.
My recommendation is to obtain a 2nd opinion from a Pediatric Dentist. Please do remember to only put your son to bed or a nap with water only. He may fuss and cry for milk or juice, but stand firm and in a few days he will accept the water. Also follow these hints for his sippy cup also.
It is fine to give him milk and juice at meal time, just remember to have him rinse or drink some water after, and brush his teeth with a flouride toothpaste.
Is your home water supply flouridated or is he getting daily flouride pills from his pediatrician? If not please look into this as a flouride tablet will add strength to his growing permanent teeth up until age 12 or 13 years old.
I hope this information was helpful for you.
