My 5 year old daughter had 4 teeth removed upper and lower front. I have been going to a dentist for the at least once a week for the last six weeks for a space maintainer. Only for him to now tell me that they are unable to give her one because she has caps on her back teeth and the cement will not bond to her caps.
I have recently called other dentist in my area and most do not supply space maintainers. Is there any other type of adhesive that they can use or is there another type of partial that could be used for her missing teeth?
Hi and thank you for the question. I cement spacers around stainless steel
crowns probably every day and do not have any problems with the bands coming
off. I use Ketac-cem which is a very common cement. So, you can cement around crowns.
You may want to reconsider having a spacer made because she is already 5 and a lot of times, permanent teeth erupt shortly thereafter. I've seen several 5 year olds and even some 4 1/2 year olds that already have permanent teeth erupting. I'd have your dentist check the radiograph and see if it is even worth while to have one made. I hope this has helped.
