FAQ:  Orthognathic Surgery

Video: Orthognathic Surgery Testimonial
Orthognathic Treatment Alternative

Question:
I am 21 years old with a severe over bite and unaligned jaw. I need to get corrective surgery but want to do it without braces.

Is there any way I could do it with Invaslign. If I cannot because my teeth will not match is there anyway I could fix this problem with getting vaneers?

I've already had braces for 5 years (most of my teen years). I don't know why I didn't get surgery then. I don't want to ever get braces again. What are my choices if any? ... Visitor from CA

Answer:
The usual treatment to correct jaw sizing and shape disparities is the combination of orthognathic surgery and braces. Oral surgeons do the bone modifications, but they don't perform ortho services.

You might try looking for a "team" consisting of an oral surgeon and an orthodontist who HAS used Invisalign or accelerated ortho treatments subsequent to surgery.

The inconvience of several months use of traditional braces is minor... considering the benefit of a "normal" jaw structure and function that will last a lifetime.

Cutting corners at the wrong places can backfire.... be careful.
