Orthodontics Ask The Orthodontist Ara Nazarian Question:
Tooth extraction to relieve crowding: I am 19 years old and about 10 months ago I had a front lower tooth removed to fix a crowding problem.

I just got my braces off, which were only on my bottom teeth. I had an upper retainer. Now it seems that my upper teeth are sticking out from my lowers.

Did I make a mistake by getting the tooth extracted? ...Visitor from PA

Answer:
In order to gain space in crowding situations, many dentists remove teeth.

It is important to wear your retainer as instructed by your orthodontist.

If your concerns are about your bite, I would suggest you talk to your orthodontist. Since orthodontics takes some time and there are multiple visits to your dentist, it would have been better for you to tell him/her before debanding then now.

However, I am sure he/she will listen to your needs.

A Nazarian, DDS
