Orthodontics Ask The Orthodontist Edward Leventhal Question:
Fix Orthodontic Extraction caused Midline Shift: My 15 year old daughter wore braces for almost 4 years to correct her back bite.

Her teeth were never crooked or misaligned. In the process, she was told she needed a top tooth extracted.

When her braces were removed, the center line of both her top and bottom teeth is now too far to the right. What, if anything, can be done to correct this? ...Visitor from MA

Answer:
The midline can be corrected with full braces again.

Radiographs must be taken to check the length of the roots to verify they have not been blunted with four years of braces.
