Gap between front teeth: My 12 year old daughter has a gap between her two front teeth.
The rest of her teeth are fine. Can you recommend something other than braces? ....Visitor from PA
Without seeing your daughter, it's hard to give you a firm answer of what could be done.
However at age 12 an orthodontist should be consulted to evaluate your daughters bite and orthodontic condition. Sometimes children have a strong band of connective tissue between their front teeth, preventing the teeth to close up the space between them.
Also, the maxillary frenulum sometimes attaches low and close to the top front teeth, also preventing them from coming together.
Age 12 is the perfect time to see a good orthodontist for an evaluation. It is MUCH easier to correct a mal-occlusion or a bite that is off now before she goes through her growth spurt and all her adult teeth come in.
Even if she has all her adult teeth, now is the best time to have her bite looked at. A sound bite can benefit her the rest of her life.
