Orthodontics Ask The Dentist - Edward Leventhal Question:
I just got my braces off today. When I close my mouth, my teeth look fine, but when you look up at my teeth from below, there's a space between the upper and lower 4 teeth. I think that they should be touching. Is that right?

I asked my orthodontist about it, but she said that it was normal. Should there be a space? My upper teeth go over my lower teeth a little bit, which I think is normal, but it's just that there's spaces in between them.

If I try to bite on a piece of paper, I can't clamp on it; it just slides right out. ...Visitor from WA

Answer:
When you talk about space between your upper and lower 4 teeth, do you mean your front teeth or side teeth? If you mean your side teeth, they will hopefully tighten up over time and thus 'settle'. It would be best to speak with your orthodontist
