Orthodontics Ask The Dentist - Edward Leventhal Question:
Hi, I have had my braces off for over a year now and have been wearing retainers since then. I am unhappy with one of my teeth because it is further back than the rest of them. I went to the orthodontist today and had an impression done for a new retainer to fix this problem.
They said they could put an attachment on the new retainer that would push my tooth forward. What is the name of this attachment and how long will I have to wear it? Can I just wear it at night? Thanks ...Kristin in GA

Answer:
Kristin, if they are attaching this to your present retainer, most likely it's some kind of a spring. You most likely wear this 24/7, and return regularly for orthodontic adjustments, until that tooth is back in its place, and then switch to night wear. It's best to ask your orthodontist. Hope this helps.
