FAQ:  Novocaine

Question:
Tikosyn and dental work: I have recently started on Tikosyn for A-fib.

I read where someone said that you cannot have novacaine for dental work if you are on Tikosyn.

Is this true? If so, what do you do when you need to have dental work done? ...Visitor from IN

Answer:
Novacaine contains epinephrine which can cause increased heart rates for some patients.

You need to consult with the doctor who prescribed your medication to discuss which local anesthetics would be safe for you to use.

Some full service sedation dentists have the experience of providing dental care for patients who are being treated with a variety of medications for heart problems.

Experience is the key factor for you in getting the dental treatment you seek.
