Implants: Bone Grafting vs Bone Expanders: My daughter needs an implant.
The dentist said she didn't have enough bone width for a standard implant. The dentist suggested either bone grafting or expansion.
What are the pros and cons associated with grafting vs expansion techniques? ...Visitor from MI
Bone grafting offers a predictable way to add bone to an area but requires a second surgical site and additional expense.
Bone spreading is not done by alot of surgeons as it is an art form that many have not learned. It is less expensive, less invasive and can be limiting if a lot of bone volume is required.
Both techniques can be successful in the hands of an experienced dentist.
I would discuss these options with the person doing your surgery. They will do what has worked best for them in the past.
