Question:
Implants for Wisdom Teeth? Is it possible to get wisdom teeth implants?

I had all my wisdom teeth in but I was forced by my parents and my old dentist to get my top two wisdom teeth removed because of cavities (yes, cavities). My bottom two wisdom teeth are still in. ...Visitor from IL

Answer:
Depending on the quality and quantity of the remaining bone, implants may be placed to replace the missing wisdom teeth.

Oftentimes when the wisdom teeth are removed the bone is damaged or becomes resorbed. This area of the maxilla (upper jaw) generally has poor bone quality to begin with.

In order to determine if there is adequate bone some type of cross sectional imaging is required. This is generally accomplished with a CT scan.

It is an expensive process. Treatment planning which includes study models, diagnostic wax up, radiographic template, radiographic index, CT-scan and an examination costs around $1,0000 or so. The drilling guide, dental implants, abutments and crowns could cost several thousands more.

I personally would not have wisdom teeth replaced with dental implants. In your case you may feel differently.
