  • Low Blood Pressure: I have extreme dental phobia and am planning to have several cavities filled under sleep dentristry. I have low blood pressure and my heart rate is usually 90-110 beats per minute. I am 22 and healthy as far as I know. Will my lower blood pressure be a problem when getting Oral Concious Sedation or any type of sleep dentistry? ...Visitor from PA     (answer)

  • I have 6 remaining teeth in the upper jaw. They are all chipped, decayed and broken. I am not positive, but belive they need to be pulled, because they are just plain NASTY and gone! My problem is that I am severely afraid of the dentist. I have seen the same one for sometime and am comfortable with him, however, the ONE needle that is inserted into the roof of the mouth which enables work to be done on the front teeth is KEEPING me away from his office. My self esteem has suffered a great deal because of the smile that is now hidden behind a droopy top lip in an effort to hide the ugliness of the teeth! My dentist has agreed to extract the 6 teeth, and place the denture in immediately so I am not without teeth. He has also agreed to the IV sedation to complete the extractions. What he does not agree to and which makes no sense to me is that he will not sedate me UNTIL he has given me the needles in the roof of my mouth! This of course is my entire reason for wanting to be sedated. Is it possible for a dentist to sedate you with IV sedation and then give the needles or do the extractions? Why does he have to give me the needles FIRST? And is there ANY way to make those needles in the roof of your mouth NOT feel as if they are coming out the top of your head? PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME! I pray for someone to punch me in the mouth JUST to avoid those needles! ...Pam in Maryland     (answer)

  • I never had a problem visiting a dentist before but all of a sudden I've developed a phobia. I've had tooth ache for about 3 weeks now and my ear has started to get really painful as a result. The tooth is needing to come out but I will only go to a dentist if he completly knocks me out. Will this be possible and is there anywhere in the Glasgow area that does this, please help I'm in severe pain. ...Visitor from Glasgow, Scotland     (answer)

  • Help! I am dental phobic, and my lower 4th tooth/molar cracked. There was a filling in there for years. I thought about a week ago I had a cavity there, on the side. I am in the process of going on my Fiance's dental insurance, so I was waiting to get that. Last night after brushing my teeth, I felt a weird twinge, took a look and a piece of my molar was missing. 3/4 of the tooth is there. I called my dentist and he can see me tomorrow. He said it will be rebuilt or he can use a crown. I am in NO pain. What kind of pain am I going to have afterwards? Do you think it can be repaired? Do you think I will need root canal? I had no sleep last night and I have been in a cold sweat over this, I had a bad experience with a different dentist when I was little. ...Visitor from NY     (answer)
