FAQ:  Extra Teeth

Question:
Extra teeth: My 6 year old daughter has extra teeth growing out of her gum under her upper lip at the top.

I want to know what it is and how to treat it? ...Visitor from South Wales UK

Answer:
Those extra teeth could be her secondary teeth.

The best resource for determining what is going on, at a "tissue level", is a Periodontist.

If they are indeed extra teeth they can be extracted. If they are secondary teeth, the Periodontist can provide treatment to move those teeth to where they should be.

Be sure to find a Periodontist who knows how to move teeth without braces. This procedure is not routinely taught in dental schools.

While an orthodontist might be an alternative choice, there is the possibility the orthodontist will prefer to wait until your daughter is older.
