Question:
Delay recommended Expander treatment: My daughter who is 8 years old needs a dental expander due to her alignment is off on her upper jaw.

I was wondering could I wait one more year or should I do it now? What is the benefit of doing it now than wait one more year? ..... Visitor from Warren

Answer:
Expanders are recommended when significant modification is required with the shape and size of bony ridge (bone that teeth are anchored into).

For some patients, getting an early start is more beneficial than waiting until later.

Since most orthodontists all use different types and brands of ortho appliances, it would be worthwhile to get 3-4 opinions before deciding what to do.

Waiting a year may or may not make treatment more difficult due to the growth spurts that are expected to occur.
