Length expander should stay in: My 9 1/2 year old had the expander put in with the key. After about 4 months they took it out and put a bar across the roof of her mouth.

Now they say that this has to stay in until she is 12! They told me at the beginning it would be about a 6 month process. What is the deal? .... Visitor from Daly City

We don't have a clue..... although "growth events" typically play a role.

Although we could guess at several possibilities, they would likely not be ACCURATE.

As with ANY dental treatment.... a care provider should NOT ever avoid taking the time to explain why certain treatments are being used and what the expected outcomes should be.
