Question:
Palete Expansion Surgery: My daughter just turned 15 and when I took her to the orthodontist, I was told she had to have a palate expansion surgical procedure.

What exactly do they do in this surgery, and what is the healing time? Is it painful?

I am wondering if I should wait until the summer time when she is out of school to have this done. .... Visitor from Tucson

Answer:
Palate expansion is typically achieved with the use of an oral appliance that is continually adjusted to change the shape of the upper arch in a fashion that aligns well with the shape of the lower arch.

Length of time, type of appliance design and comfort levels are different for everyone. Whether or not the treatment can be completed during a summer.... can ONLY be answered by your treatment provider.

It may be a good idea to get more than one consult.
