Broken file during root canal and is stuck touching nerve: During Root Canal Therapy (RCT), the file tip broke off, got stuck and the x-ray shows that the file tip is touching a nerve.
The dentist said that it cannot be removed unless through special surgery through the side palate. Another dentist says that he wouldn´t recommend this surgery as it may bring some serious nasal complications.
The RC was done so to have a crown placed but I only have the post installed as the crown is still being manufactured. The problem is that right now, I can touch the post with my finger and when I apply pressure to it, it actually hurts which suggests that the post is pressing against the file which is pressing against the nerve, meaning the crown will also hurt.
What can I do? ...Visitor from AZ
It might be worthwhile to get an indepedent opinion from an Endodontist or even a Periodontist.
Crowning a problematic tooth doesn't make any sense at this point. The risk for failure or need for retreatment would seem to be very high.
Many dentists would recommend a dental implant replacement, along with the possible need for a sinus lift to manage any sinus cavity perforation issues.
