Jaw, gum and ear pain: 3 months ago I had a tooth removed at lower back of my mouth. For 2 and half months things were great no pain at all.
Then the spot where I had the tooth extracted started hurting like the bad tooth was still there. The pain seems to spread through the whole right side of my jaw and even causes my ear to hurt.
This has been going on for 2 months now. I have been to the doctor; they gave me strong antibiotics thinking it might be an infection. After taking all the medicine the pain has not gotten better.
Any suggestion of what is causing this pain? ...Visitor from Monroe
In view of your self report, it "seems" that you may have an issue with a broken root tip fragment. With posterior tooth extractions the "event" of a broken root tip is not uncommon.
Unfortunately, not all general dentists and specialists are equally talented in locating these fragments.
The best resource for diagnosing this likely possibility is a Periodontist who has access to ctscan technology. 3D imaging simplifies the diagnostic process. Once located, removal is fairly straight forward.
Removal of a root tip fragment is REQUIRED to prevent infection from becoming deep seated into the jaw bone.
