Tooth and Gum pain after Apicoectomy: I had a root canal and apicoectomy due to continued pain in a crowned tooth. It's been almost 2 years and I still have pain in that tooth and gum.

Occasionally, it feels as if pepper is in the gum and it burns. My dentist and endodontist can't figure this out. ...Visitor from Plymouth

Theoretically, a successful root canal is "supposed to" completely obliterate the perception of pain in the treated tooth.

Incomplete root canals are fairly commonplace because of hidden or branched roots. That which can't be "seen" cannot be treated as effectively as those roots that are commonly seen.

Root canal re-treatments don't always lead to "treatment success" For this reason, many accomplished root canal dentists will recommend a dental implant replacement for the affected tooth.

With proper care, a dental implant tooth can last a lifetime.
