  • Maryland Bridge Failures: I have a Maryland bridge on the lower front of my teeth replacing my center front two teeth and a third one to the left. It will not stay in. From the time of placement, I have had it recemented twice within the first week, it then lasted about a month, then 3 months, and this last time 3 days. I am so very careful because of the problems and am very stressed by this as I am being made to feel that this is my fault no matter what I do. Also, I am now being charged for each recementing. I need to know what to do about keeping this appliance in place. ...Visitor from NY     (answer)

  • Restylane Injections for receding gums under bridge? I have a 3 tooth permanent bridge in the top front (my second), due to the fact that I was born with a "supernumerary" attached to my front tooth and it never came down when I lost my baby tooth. A dental surgeon removed it from the gum, in childhood. I am now 60, and my gums are receding. The middle tooth of the bridge now looks like it is suspended in air, a terrible fake look. My dentist suggests a new bridge or an implant to deal with this, along with a gum tissue implant. Since my only problem with the bridge is receding gums, can Restylane injections or something similar, be used instead, to build up the gums, without a new bridge or implant? ...Visitor from DE     (answer)

  • Permanent Bridge Removal: I had a 3 tooth upper back left bridge installed permanently about 6 months ago in a prior state where I then lived. On one of the teeth, the porcelain fell off the front and back, (it is fused to metal). My question is, when my Dentist removes the bridge, will that damage the two teeth that it is cemented to? I'm concerned about getting it removed - fear you know! ...Visitor from NC     (answer)

  • Temporary Bridge Pain: I am on my third bridge (same teeth) in 6 years. This last one has been problems from the beginning. The permanent bridge was placed and cracked in two within the first 48 hours. I was eating a cracker at the time. The dentist has since removed, put a hook(?) in one tooth, and a new impression has been made. The temporary was placed 3 days ago and I am in quite a bit of discomfort. The dentist said both teeth have had root canals and did the hook placement without anesthesia. Could this be the reason for the discomfort or is there likely another cause? I just began a new job and have been told I cannot take any more time off, so unneccesary appointments need to be avoided. ...Visitor from TX     (answer)

  • Cracked surface on bridge: I have a 5 tooth porcelain bridge in the front of my mouth. One of the teeth has a cracked surface which has become stained from food. My dentist has been unable to polish it off. It is very unsightly and I would like to have it corrected. Is there some way to improve the appearance without replacing the entire bridge which would cost several thousand dollars? Is it possible to put a veneer on the one tooth of the bridge? Is there some other procedure? Is there something that would bond to the porcelain to repair this site? ...Visitor from TX     (answer)

  • Loose Bridge? I went to the dentist and they took impressions to make a crown. When they tried to pull the impression out they had a hard time and pulled hard which loosened the left side of my 4 tooth bridge, front top teeth. I thought they could re-glue it but they told me it could crack or damage the bridge if they do. Is there a way to remove this bridge? I hate to have to pay for another, this one is still good. They caused the problem in the first place. I would appreciate any advice on this matter. ...Visitor from TX     (answer)

  • Abcess under my bridge: My front teeth are bridged. I have an abcess on one of my front teeth and my dentist says I need to remove my bridge so they can perform root canal. What if the teeth are weak and they're not good for replacement of crowns? Do they need to be extracted? ...Visitor from Calgary Canada     (answer)

  • Fixed Bridge causing cold sensitivity? What would cause the pain and sensitive sensation to cold water after having a bridge permanently cemented in? I've had this problem 7 weeks since the time my 4 unit bridge was permanently cemented. The frequency has increased in the last couple of days. ...Visitor from TX     (answer)

  • Why decay on 10 year old bridge? I have a 5-tooth bridge that is supported by a front tooth on one end and two molars in back. My dentist discovered that the last supporting tooth has decay and the whole bridge will need to be replaced. The bridge is 10 years old. I have always taken care to brush and floss regularly and I wonder why there is decay. Is this an unusual situation? ...Visitor from MA     (answer)

  • Bridge or Implant? I'm having an abscessed tooth extracted in a couple weeks and I'm having a hard time making a decision about how to replace the tooth. I believe the dentist said the bridge would consist of teeth 13,14 and 15. One of teeth next to the abscessed one needs a crown, but the one on the other side is totally healthy. I have been considering an implant, but worry about this option due to the price and the fact that I would need a sinus lift. I have suffered with nonstop sinusitis for years due to the abscess and worry about more pain and complications. Are implants really that much better?? I really don't want it to be obvious that I have "fake teeth". Is it a good idea to get a second opinion? ...Visitor from NH     (answer)

  • Mini implants to replace bridge: My wife has a bridge and tooth 17 which was crowned, split the crown consists of numbers 17,18 and 19 18 is gone and 19 has had a root canal. My question is can she get mini implants for the bridge? Her dentist recommends implants but the cost is staggering and the time factor is prohibitive for her job resposibilities. ...Visitor from PA     (answer)

  • Painful Bridgework: My dentist seated a 3 tooth bridge about 5 months ago. I still can not chew on that side of my mouth. I keep going back and he keeps telling me the bridge is fine. If it is fine, why do I feel like I am chewing on shards of glass? I never had this problem before the bridge. ...Visitor from OH     (answer)

  • Painful bridges when eating: I have six week old bridges. One covers two root canals, a pontic and a normal tooth. This four tooth bridge is about 6 weeks old and I have pain when I eat hot or very cold food. They have been "adjusted" several times to fit the bite of an upper older bridge of also four teeth. This pain is also true of a upper bridge of 2 and a pontic. I also have 10 crowns that are wonderful but hey are induividual and are all porcelain. 25,000 dollars later, I look great but I can't really enjoy eating. My dentist is making me a bite splint to wear at night as I grind my teeth. ...Visitor from FL     (answer)

  • Use existing crowns to make bridgework?: I had a crown fall out that could not be re-cemented because the existing tooth fell out with it. I have a crown on either side of this tooth and my dentist is wanting to put in a bridge to connect the three teeth. My dentist is wanting to create all new crowns for this bridge? Can my dentist use the existing crowns that I have in order to make my bridge or do I have to have totally new crowns made? This is going to cost me $3500 that I don't have and I at wits end on how to correct this situation. ...Visitor from TX     (answer)

  • I had my final bridge work done a week ago. It was a 7 way bridge in the front on the bottom. I have 2 teeth crowned on the left side, and one on the right side. The one on the right is my lower canine. This has been causing me unbearable pain, throbing, aching and sharp nerve pains in the tooth and also down into my chin. What should I do about it? I'm guessing a root canal, but will this make my bridgework too weak to hold up on this side since that is the only tooth holding that side of it? This tooth was sensitive before the procedure was done, which I did let the dentist know before hand. Any advice? ...Visitor from GA     (answer)

  • Can a permanent bridge as opposed to a removable bridge be attached to mini dental implants? ...Visitor from NM     (answer)

  • My right lower molar has had two root canals and the back roots cut off. It is holding a bridge with seven teeth. Also I have peridontial disease and do not have enough gum for post or implants. What can I do to save my bridge? ...Visitor from MS     (answer)

  • I have a fixed upper implant protheses and I am having a very difficult time with speech and comfort. I have six implants from canine to canine. When I bite, talk, or just close my mouth, my lower teeth rest on porcelain. I feel it is very bulky and my dentist just tells me to deal with it. Is it normal to close on porcelain? My canines are about the same width as my premolars. ...Visitor from NJ     (answer)
