Denture Pain Ask The Prosthodontist Chris McFarland Question:
Lower Plate: I just got a full set of dentures less than a week ago.

I was told my gums would be a little sore until they harden up a little. My upper plate is fitting pretty good but my lower plate is causing my quite a bit of pain.

The fit is perfect but I can see a blister on my gum and I have sores where the plate was too long at first. It feels like they are cutting into the back of my gums as well.

How much pain is acceptable and when do I need to say enough is enough? ... Visitor from IL

Everything you are saying is completely normal and actually it sounds like you are doing quite well.

I always expect to see my denture patients within 48-72 hours, so chances are your dentist is waiting for your call.

Go in for the adjustment and expect a couple more before everything is worked out.Good luck ... you already have the toughest days behind you.
